Update on Sunny - Fall 2008
Sunny had surgery for his elbows during the spring of 2008. At that time large floating bone fragments were removed. The surgeon diagnosed him with severe arthritis in his elbows. He also recommended a hip replacement. Both of Sunny’s hips have dysplasia (the balls do not fit into the sockets properly). One hip is worse than the other which causes an inconsistency in his gait. I continue to monitor this situation.
Since the surgery Sunny continues with his weekly acupuncture treatments. I have learned how to the locate the points on him and we often have “joint treatments” – I put some needles in Sunny and then I put some in myself and we relax together.
Sunny continues to let me know what kind of exercise routine he needs. He is 1 ½ years old and still quite rambunctious. He needs to get enough exercise and stimulus for his energy level, but not too much for his joints. He is very social and loves being around people and playing with other dogs. It has been a challenge to put my desires aside of having him as a companion for long hikes in the mountains and to be aware of his needs and his limited endurance.
Sunny continues to be my work partner. He loves to welcome everyone at the office and receive some attention in return. He might even take a nap under the acupuncture table while you are having a treatment. We both look forward to seeing you at your next visit.
